Spectrum Youth Chorus - New York Tour 2020
A full week-long music & cultural tour to the “Big Apple” home to the mecca of musical expression and inspiration!
Sat, March 28 – Sat, April 4, 2020 View Complete Itinerary HERE!
This coming spring, Spectrum Youth Chorus singers are invited to travel to New York City to participate in the Manhattan Concert Productions – Carnegie Hall Youth Choral Festival with Guest Conductor Henry Leck! Touring with a choir is an incredible educational experience. As choristers are exposed to different cultures, they learn about their world, gain self-confidence and discover opportunities that help them chart their futures in exciting ways. As we live, work and perform together in a variety of settings we learn teamwork, as our musicianship grows, while building friendships through mutual experiences and passions. And all of this happens while we share our choral art with ourselves, each other and our audiences – making a positive difference with the power of quality music.
In addition to participating in festival rehearsals & the Carnegie Hall concert, we will explore many of the cultural & historical gems of Manhattan including:
Accommodations will be at an excellent, centrally located, midtown Manhattan hotel (Westin Times Square, Hilton NY, Sheraton New York, or something comparable). Singers will be placed four per room, chaperones 2 per room.
NYC transportation will include bus, subway (week-long pass included!) and walking to all activities.
Eight group dinners are included in our festival package! These daily meals will be booked at popular restaurants such as Hardrock Café, Planet Hollywood & Ellen’s Stardust Diner (home of the singing wait staff!) or something similar. The night of our Carnegie Hall concert, the festival provides a buffet reception dinner. Singers will get to pre-order meals ahead of time from a number of menu options (including vegetarian and gluten free options). For breakfast/lunch, singers can explore numerous local delis, coffee shops, restaurants and grocery shops in small groups.
Tour eligibility: Youth Chorus Singers who will be in grades 6-12 next year (2019-2020). Occasionally VERY advanced, experienced musician 5th graders will be considered -if interested in moving up to Youth Chorus early. Talk with Stephanie if you have questions!

Youth Chorus singers are invited to participate in our Spectrum Music & Cultural Tours every 1-2 years, to destinations around the globe. Tour destinations are selected by our Artistic Director each season, chosen for the high quality musical and educational experiences available each season. Spectrum tours are designed for singers seeking additional challenges and personal growth opportunities through travel, while taking their music skills to the next level and learning about the world through the sharing of song. Tour information will be sent home to families as it is available. Spectrum singers of all ages/choir levels are invited to participate in choir tour fundraisers, with earnings saved in your name for as long as you remain in Spectrum and may be used for future tours or day camp. Our Youth Chorus has toured to Italy (2016) and England/Scotland (2018). Our next tour destination will be New York City/Carnegie Hall in 2020!
